George Lucas set up Edutopia - The George Lucas Educational Foundation in 1991 as a nonprofit operating foundation to celebrate and encourage innovation in schools.
In 2010 he joined billionaires around the world in pledging his fortune to charity.
In 2015, Lucas proposed a low-income housing development on some of his land, funded by him, which could be completed by 2019 if approved.
