In November 2006, magician Blaine performed a stunt in New York’s Times Square in support of The Salvation Army, which had provided him with clothes in his youth.
After 52 hours Blaine escaped from the shackles that had held him in a spinning gyroscope suspended above the ground. He was later to give a $500 voucher to each of 100 children and their families selected by The Salvation Army, and to lead them on a shopping spree at Target, the event’s sponsor.
