The 2014 Harlem Fine Arts Show kicks off Super Bowl Week by honoring NFL players with an emphasis on their artistic gifts at the historic Riverside Church from January 30 to February 2, 2014. The show’s fifth installment partners with the NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and celebrates over 80 galleries and artists within the African Diaspora. Andre Collins, former NFL linebacker and current NFLPA Director of Former Players, will attend the “Smocks and Jocks” event January 31. Showcasing the artistic side of the NFL player continues to have a positive impact on the community. By involving local communities, the event has true meaning — raising awareness around the charitable endeavors of the NFLPA and Professional Athletes Foundation, while focusing on artists with disabilities, hearing loss awareness and music education. The partnership also includes “Youth Empowerment Day” and “NFL Night” on January 31. Students from the New York metropolitan area will create football-themed art and interact with select NFL players on “Youth Empowerment Day” from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The evening closes with “NFL Night” from 6 to 10 p.m. featuring players discussing the value of art in their lives, displaying their work and auctioning items for charity for the Harlem School of Arts.
